ELIQUO has been awarded for ELOVAC® as part of the WiR Innovation Prize by the Economy and Innovation Promotion Agency Landkreis Ravensburg mbH (WiR GmbH), as the only company in the field of climate and environment among 25 other applicants.

Technology for vacuum degassing of digested sludge receives award for methane recovery

The ELOVAC® technology developed by ELIQUO, is used for vacuum degassing of digested sludge at municipal wastewater treatment plants. The technology captures methane which is trapped in the sewage sludge and prevents it from escaping into the atmosphere. In addition, the methane can be used for energy, for example by feeding it to the CHP. Cities and municipalities can therefore significantly reduce their CO₂ footprint at their wastewater treatment plants.

Wastewater management is one of the largest sources of methane emissions worldwide

Sewage and waste management are the largest polluters of methane emissions worldwide. Like CO₂, methane is a greenhouse gas, but in comparison 28 times more harmful over a period of 100 years and 84 times more harmful over a period of 20 years. Methane is produced at wastewater treatment plants during the sewage sludge treatment process, where the methane is usually released uncontrolled into the atmosphere.

WIR Innovation Prize awarded every two years for the district of Ravensburg

The innovation prize is given every two years by a four-person jury to companies in the district of Ravensburg. Companies are awarded for their future-oriented technologies or pioneering work in research and development, which differentiate them from competitors with innovative products, processes or services.
